Mata Raj Kaur
Gurudwara Shri Manji Sahib Mata Raj Kaur has its presence at the hub of holy town of Manimajra in Chandigarh. The gurudwara has its historical significance and people from far places come here to have a glimpse of it. This place has its historical and religious significance, and it is believed that whoever comes here with full devotion, all their wishes are fulfilled. The gurudwara is associated with Shri Guru Gobind Singh and Mata Raj Kaur.
The gurudwara was once served as residence of Mata Raj Kaur, and at present it is under the management of Shiromini Prabandhak Committee. As per legend, the gurudwara’s height governs the maximum height of buildings in Manimajra.
Background
Mata Raj Kaur was obliged to leave the gurudwara which she retaliated by pronouncing a curse on all who should erect a building higher than the present height of the gurudwara. The curse is said to have resulted in the extinction of the Raja’s family when a fort was given an elevation higher than the gurudwara. The curse is still considered to be in effect, and the height of this gurudawra was recently increased in order to enable people to safely construct higher houses.
History
Mata Raj Kaur, who was the wife of Ram Rai, got disappointed with her husband and decided to leave. She came from Dehradun to Manimajra and stayed here. Ram Rai had changed a verse in Baani so as to make Aurangzeb happy, where in place of ‘Mitti Musalmaan Di’ was changed to ‘Mitti Be-Imaan Di’. Mata Raj Kaur was a great devotee of Guru Nanak Dev and Guru Ghar, and she was unable to tolerate the disrespect and left Ram Rai and came to Manimajra. Following her stay in Manimajra, Mata Raj Kaur because a religious guru with a following of her own.
During one of the instance in the rainy season, the beam of Mata’s house is on the verge of collapse, and she sent one of her follower to a wealthy person Bhaara Mall in order to get a pillar underneath the beam. However, Bhaara Mall did not respond well to this situation. Later, she sent the follower Garibu Jatt, who cut the trunk of a tree and placed it underneath the beam overnight. Mata Raj Kaur got very happy with his services asked him to make a wish. Garibu requested her that his coming generations should not become a subject of the king but they should become kings. Mata Raj Kaur granted him a boon that he will become a king and Bhaara Mall will be a tenant under him.

Gurudwara Shri Manji Sahib Mata Raj Kaur is located in Manimajra, which is accessible through the old Ropar-Shimla road at a distance of approximately 8km on the North East of Chandigarh across Sukhna Choe. The town has a good connectivity with Chandigarh through the wide Chandigarh-Kalka that lead up to NH 22 to Shimla. The town is also connected through two additional links - one along Kishangarh and other Route No.3.

The best time to visit Gurudwara Shri Manji Sahib Mata Raj Kaur is all through the year except the months of July, August and September when the monsoon season prevails.
